Belgium government draft legislation

In Belgium, Minister of Public Health Maggie De Block has introduced draft legislation that would implement more checks on vending machines that dispense alcohol beverages, impose more stringent alcohol advertising restrictions to prevent the targeting of underage youth, and permit 16- to 18-year-old youth to consume only beer and wine and not distilled spirits. Additional planned measures include raising awareness about the risks of alcohol consumption during pregnancy, introducing voluntary minimum drinking age labelling, and expanding a pilot programme in which alcohol treatment specialists are employed in eight hospital emergency units.
