Oral cancer and the protective effects of antioxidants
A study by El Attar et al of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, published in Anti-Cancer Drugs analysed the effect of red wines antioxidants, including resveratrol and quercetin on human oral cancer cells.

Results:

The researchers found that concentrations of resveratrol induced 'significant dose-dependent inhibition in cell growth as well as DNA synthesis' Quercetin had a more mixed effect, but in combination with resveratrol gradually and significantly increased the inhibitory effect. It was concluded that resveratrol and quercetin, in concentrations equivalent to that present in red wines, are effective inhibitors of oral squamous carcinoma cell growth and proliferation, and warrant further investigation as cancer chemo-preventative agents.
