US Senate adopts .08 BAC levels
The US Senate passed a national blood alcohol standard of .08 in July, denying Federal Highway funds to States who do not conform to a .08 bac level by 2004. Presently 18 Sates and Washington DC have a .08 standard: 32 States have .10 BAC standards. The Senate vote to pass the $54.7 billion Transportation Funding Act, including the BAC standard was 99-0, but the House of Representatives passed version does not contain the BAC standards, so the Bills will need to be reconciled before being signed into law.
